| get into a rental and leave the car at a trustable body shop until the insurance company settles on YOUR price. Not many people realize that insurance companies are flexible with the amount of money they give you. You just need to work for it. I work at a body shop and it works every time. The insurance company is not only paying for the storage of your car (in my case $50/day) but they are also paying for your rental ($25/day) so they'd much rather settle as soon as possible at your price then have to drag on the process and end up paying a considerable amount more in storage and rental fees. If the insurance company tows your car to one of their body shops or storage facilities, they can take months or even years to settle the claim with you, hoping that you will becoming impatient and accept their offer, making it less likely for you to get the amount you want. The trick is to keep as much of this claim in your control and possession. Once they have your car you're at the mercy of them, and trust me when i say this.. they will drag it on forever until they get what they want.
